COERR Aranyaprathet Continue their Activities for the Poor and Vulnerable

Several groups of poor elderly, handicapped and children in the Thai-Cambodian border continue their normal living with the assistance from COERR Aranyaprathet Office.

Since June 9, 1996, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne, COERR celebrated the Golden Jubilee by initiating the relief program to the poor elderly and handicapped in Sakaew and Surin Province. Since then, rice and dried food supplies have been main items in COERR’s monthly kits of food and hygiene supplies distributed to the target beneficiaries. In some month, donated supplies such as instance noodles, canned fish, soap, powder, etc. are added. These donations have been much appreciated. This program is valued in at least three-fold: it has improved the poor elderly and handicapped’s nutrition and health; it has raised awareness of the community members to become volunteers to visit and provide care and advice for the elderly and handicapped during their visit, and that it has challenged the public to contribute to the Thai vulnerable elderly and handicapped villagers.

At present, monthly relief supplies are distributed to 60 elderly and handicapped in Sa Kaew Province in the following districts: 33 in Tapraya, 13 in Watana Nakhon, 11 in Wang Somboon and 3 in Aranyaprathet District.

By the way, COERR continued to provide support to enable Ubonrachathani Diocese to distribute monthly supplies of rice and food for 60 elderly and handicapped living in Surin Province since September 2013.
